MINUTES OF THE JANUARY 8TH, 2009 BOARD MEETING

BROOKRIDGE ESTATES HOMES ASSOCIATION

A Board Meeting of the Brookridge Estates Homes Association was held at the home of Board Member Anne Hussar at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, January 8th, 2009.  President Jim Waldock, Treasurer Cindy Hayward, Board Members Anne Hussar, Bob Wolkowitz, David Willig, David Kidd, John Cessna, and Secretary Bill Williams attended.

President Jim Waldock called the meeting to order at 7:06 P.M.

Discussion on Selecting a Trash Hauler for 2009:

After a forty (40) minute open discussion on the pros and cons of the proposals from the various vendors for the hauling of the resident’s trash that were received by Treasurer Cindy Hayward, The Board came to the following conclusions:

That out of all the different vendors who submitted bids to The Board, the decision was between Town & Country Disposal, based out of Lee’s Summit, and Deffenbaugh Disposal Service.

  1. Deffenbaugh Disposal Service was considerably less expensive than Town & Country Disposal.  This was weighed against the various services offered by each.
  2. With either service, all yard waste needs to be placed into Bio-Degradable bags or bundled into lengths of branches no longer than two (2) feet.
  3. Deffenbaugh Disposal Service allows for six (6) of these sixty-five (65) pound bags in addition to the six (6) full tall kitchen bags of household trash per week.
  4. Board Member Davis Willig asked if anyone knew of another vendor that offered rolling carts as part of their service?  Treasurer Cindy Hayward pointed out that Town & Country Disposal offered sixty-five (65) gallon carts for three dollars per month ($3.00/month).  Deffenbaugh Disposal Service offers ninety-six (96) gallon carts, but we did not know what the cost was.  Deffenbaugh Disposal Service offers sixty-five (65) gallon carts with yellow lids for recyclables.
  5. Treasurer Cindy Hayward announced that she thought it would be a good idea to pay for our disposal service on a month-by-month basis this year.
  6. The Board agreed that the topic of trash disposal will be reevaluated every year.

Board Member John Cessna made a motion that we should contract with Deffenbaugh Disposal Service for one-hundred forty dollars ($140.00) per household.  President Jim Waldock seconded the motion.  All present agreed.

Date for next Annual Meeting:

The Board agreed that the date for the 2009 Annual Meeting would best be Tuesday, March 24th at 7:00 P.M.  The theme this year would be “Going Green”.  The Board decided to invite the Mayor of Overland Park and both of our area City Council Members to discuss the recent developments with the landfill issue and trash disposal on the whole.  Secretary Bill Williams volunteered to make the arrangements with the Brookridge Country Club for the food and banquet room.  He also volunteered to invite the Indian Woods Middle School Jazz Band back for this year’s event.

2009 Garage Sale:

Secretary Bill Williams suggested that the 2009 Wide Area Garage Sale (WAGS) be held from Wednesday, April 29th through Saturday, May 2nd.  Secretary Williams thought that the participation forms should go out to the homes by the weekend of April 4th and that the filled out forms should be delivered to him by Sunday, April 19th.  Secretary Williams agreed to coordinate this with Pinehurst and Pinehurst Estates as well as putting the ad together and informing the local community calendars.

New Business:

Board Member Bob Wolkowitz suggested that The City of Overland Park mention the Brookridge Estates Homes Association in any press releases/printed information regarding the renovations of the local Stonegate Pool.  Board Member David Willig said that the addition of the Spay Park at the newly designed facility will not happen right now.  Board Member Willig pointed out that it was good we got the pool project started before these recent hard economic times had hit.  The basketball court will be gone.  Through all this renovation, only one tree has been removed from the property, and that was only because of an issue with the water main that ran near it.

President Jim Waldock made a motion to adjourn the meeting.  The motion was seconded by Secretary Bill Williams.  All present agreed.

The meeting ended at 8:45 p.m.

Respectfully submitted by,
